Kindle Unlimited has the potential to devastate authors' earnings; we are totally for reasonably priced books but seriously, to earn 10 cents per copy is not a sustainable model. What do you think?

If earnings drop to a fraction of their current level (as predicted); and we're talking on average 2 dollars a unit if a book is downloaded from Select dropping to a tenth of that number; then I have to say, I'll pull out of Select/KU and set up my own shop to sell direct for donations; that has more energetic capital for me personally ...
And authors self publishing had no real notice of the change which Amazon brought in with Kindle Unlimited; so my business plan gets trashed; and I have been exclusive to Amazon since I started publishing and that's 18 months of loyalty thrown back in my face. Amazon champions the right of the consumer to enjoy cheap books without seeming to realise they are throttling the goose in the process
would you buy a book direct from an author? I mean, why not? Would you prefer to pay or donate?

Events have overtaken the discussion; the decision to start pulling out of Amazon and set up an independent book store was taken and it opened on 17th August at carterseagrove.weebly.com/the-carter-seagrove-boutique.htmlAs each book's current term in the Select/KU library comes to an end, the book will be unpublished from Amazon and re-published in the Boutique; paperback copies of certain books will continue to be available through Amazon until such time as a viable alternative POD supplier can be found. and as Indie means independent why not join Alp, Chambers and Carter and do it different yourself ... and, by the way, in the boutique, it's contribute what you think the book is worth to you; there is no price and file formats pdf mobi and epub are currently supported ... check it out

Amazon is a market place not the stall holder; the stall holders should alone decide what they stock and how much they charge for their products

If you're an author and feel like we do, why not join forces, build your own store and then let's link them together. A network of self publishing and self retailing authors linked across the globe would be so cool and a lot of fun ...

And the growing number of authors and publishers joining the Independent Author Network speaks volumes
