The story opens in a small coastal village the morning after a devastating storm. Jeremiah lives by himself a bit further from the coast. As he heads into the village to provide assistance, he comes upon a merman that is slowly dying in the wake of the destruction. He takes Sven home and tends to him. He learns from Sven that the storm was caused by Poseidon in a fit of temper and that Sven has been banished. When he is finally able to make it into town, he is horrified by the loss of so many and so much. The few people left have decided to leave and abandon the village.
Jeremiah is intrigued that the tales of the merpeople were in fact based upon the truth and incensed that Poseidon would cause such devastation. He demands that Sven take him to Poseidon and Sven imparts into him the ability to survive under water. Unbeknownst to them, not only has Poseidon’s wrath caused great wreckage on land and sea, he has also brought about the release of a monstrosity that left to its own devices would cause an annihilation throughout the seas.
Thus begins Jeremiah’s journey and his awakening . . . not only to this world under the seas, but to himself and to love . . .
The author writes this tale in such a way that suspends disbelief and I found myself totally engrossed in the action. It is well paced and I was totally absorbed as I raced through it. The breathtakingly beautiful imagery adds such depth to the story. I am awed by the creativity of the author and how easy it was to become so engrossed that I felt a bit disoriented when I finally looked up.
I recommend this to lovers of fantasy and romance alike. This has it all . . . gods, adventures, heroes and monsters and a beautiful romance.
